2014-2016 Toyota Verso, Avensis, Auris, and RAV4 Diesels Get K&N Air Filter
- Jun 15, 2016
Diesel engines make the world go round, and are gaining popularity as more drivers realize the benefits of these torquey, efficient power plants mated with stylish, efficient, and comfortable passenger and sport vehicles. Liter-per-liter, diesels are more powerful than gasoline engines and are generally more fuel-efficient. Diesels also hold their value longer because there are still fewer of them on the road, especially among luxury cars, and for them, diesel fuel prices are lower than premium gasoline prices.
Toyota has been successfully contributing to the diesel development effort on all continents with its 1.6L and 2.0L inline 4-cylinder engines in the Verso estate, Auris hatch, Avensis sedan and wagon, and RAV4 IV compact SUV/crossover. The turbocharged 1.6L D-4D is based to a BMW design, with a dual-mass flywheel, new engine mounts, and revised electrical interfaces which replaced the 2.0L D-4D in the Verso starting in 2014. For the Avensis beginning in 2015, there is the 1.6L D-4D and a 143-hp 2.0L D-4D. The Auris got the 1.6L in 2015 and RAV4 IV got the 2.0L for model year 2014 in Europe. Most Verso and Avensis models now also include Toyota's Optimal Drive stop-start system to enhance fuel mileage. The RAV4 has an integrated drive system that distributes front-to-rear torque in variable proportions to also improve fuel consumption. These recent engine and drivetrain improvements have resulted in lower emissions, higher fuel economy, and overall longevity. If you're already a diesel convert, you've invested in longevity and know a turbodiesel depends more heavily on clean air than a gasoline engine. To help with preserve your investment, and even up your engine's horsepower and torque ratings, there is now the K&N 33-3053 replacement engine air filter designed specifically for the current 1.6L and 2.0L.
The engine air filters in the rectangular air boxes of the 2014-2016 Verso and 2015-2016 Avensis, Auris and RAV4 IV are all the same drop-in design and can be easily serviced with no special tools or techniques required. It is a simple matter to replace the disposable factory filter with K&N's reusable, oiled cotton gauze 33-3053 filter, and you're set for the next 50,000 miles, depending on driving conditions. The filter is mounted in a sturdy polyethylene frame and its specially made cotton fibers efficiently trap particles and pieces, allowing more air to flow into the induction system. Cleaning and replacing the 33-3053 is straightforward enough that you may wish to service it more often than the 50,000 mile interval. To wash the filter spray it with the Power Kleen cleaner available in K&N's 99-5000 filter care service kit and rinse in clean running water, then allow it to air dry, re-oil with the filter oil, and reinstall. The 33-3053 will not void factory warranties, is engineered to work with OEM electronics, and is backed by K&N's Million-Mile Limited Warranty: three more reasons to make a reusable engine air filter part of your investment.
