The state of Alabama celebrated Mustang’s 45th anniversary in Birmingham with a four day celebration at the Barber Motorsports Park.

Mustang enthusiasts from over the United States and 15 foreign countries attended the event. There were also nine original owners of the 1964 1/2 Mustang and their historic pony cars at the anniversary weekend.
Fans were treated to a Mustang convoy of nearly 500 vehicles which began in Las Vegas, Nevada and ended at Barber Motorsports Park. There were original Mustangs, restored Mustangs and one very special 2010 Mustang GT owned by World Drifting Champion Vaughn Gittin Jr.
The K&N sponsored drifter signed autographs and gave a few people a ride in his newest competition vehicle around the Barber Motorsports racetrack.
His 2010 Mustang GT is all carbon fiber and weighs 2600 pounds. It is equipped with an aluminum Ford Racing motor and supercharger. “There is also a K&N conical air filter and a K&N oil filter,” said Gittin. “I have used K&N products since I was a teenager. K&N keeps the dirt and debris out of my engines.”
The event attracted more than 100,000 spectators and more than 2,000 Mustang show cars overall. “Our pit was full,” said Gittin. “It was an incredible weekend.”
