A Sold Out Crowd Rallys at the Sixth National Sprint Tour Event of the Season

“I had a good run,” said Sammy Swindell after winning the number five spot in
the sixth National Sprint Tour (NST) event of the season at Hutchinson Raceway
Park in Hutchinson, Kansas. “There was a lot of traffic, but I managed to pass a
couple of guys.”

The sold out crowd of 7,000 was on its feet for the 30 lap main event. Tim
Kaeding took the lead in lap five of the April 21st event and stayed there. By
lap ten the top five racers were Kaeding, Steve Kinser, Jason Solwold, Tim
Shaffer and Jason Meyers. Sammy Swindell had moved up to sixth position.
There was a battle between Swindell and Meyers for most of the 24 car race. Meyers was able to hold his position and got by Solwold in turns three and four with only six laps to go on the semi-baked dirt oval. Two laps later Sammy also passed Solwold and the top five finishers in the main event were set. It ended with Kaeding, Kinser, Shaffer, Meyers and Swindell.
“The track was really dusty and there was a lot of loose stuff flying around,” said Swindell. “At one point we had to dig all the clay out from under the hood, it was everywhere except the engine.”
Swindell was driving the Guy Forbrook-owned Mopar-powered Volcano Joe’s Coffee/Wirtgen Maxim. Forbrook Motors has used K&N Engineering products for years.
“The K&N filter kept all the clay out of the engine,” said Swindell. “The K&N filter did its job, that’s why we use them in every race.” Swindell is a three time World of Outlaws champion and one of the WoO’s top 10 drivers in point standings.
National Sprint Tour action continues May 2 at Davenport Speedway in Davenport, Iowa. Swindell’s next World of Outlaws race is April 29 at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.
