Add Horsepower and Performance to Chyrsler PT Cruiser with K&N Air Intake System
- Nov 20, 2006
The Chrysler PT Cruiser was updated in 2006 with a turbocharged engine that is
performance based and tuned to deliver 230 horsepower. The exterior has a new
wheel design and a new front grille. Sound insulation and new door panels are
also part of the 2006 upgrades.
K&N designed an air intake system, 63-1551, for 2006, 2007 and 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser models with 2.4L Turbo engines. "The electronic components under the hood were repositioned with the new design of the PT Cruiser," said K&N Performance Kit Manager Bert Heck. "K&N developed a new heat shield for this particular engine and designed the tube for these intakes to accommodate front wheel drive and the transmission."
K&N tests have shown an estimated horsepower gain of 12 @ 5086 RPM with K&N's 63-1551 and 57-1551 air intake systems. K&N Engineers were able to get such good horsepower because the original factory airbox and original filter were restrictive, said Heck.
These cold air intakes are rotationally molded polyethylene Intake System uses a conical shaped High-Flow Carbon Top Air Filter RP-4660 that fits into the stock location. The heat shield isolates the filter element from the engine heat. This in turn keeps a cooler air charge going into the engine. A carbon top is used to add to the visual appeal of the PT Cruiser.
It takes less than an hour to install this kit and the lifetime K&N Air Filter performs for up to 100,000 miles before service is required depending on driving conditions.
