ASCS 360 Sprint Class Racer Brian Brown Earns Top Podium Spot at Devil's Bowl
- Jan 6, 2014
Lining up in the ASCS 360 class, the Missouri driver had confidence on his side prior to the waving of the green flag deeming the Devil's Bowl Winternationals underway. When asked if his win the week prior had a bearing on his mindset going into the event, Brown said, "Yes. Anytime you win, it breeds confidence." Starting sixth in his heat race, Brian Brown wasted no time positioning himself in the front of the pack. Weeding his way through the field, he crossed the finish line in third place. As the feature neared, anticipation filled the air. The fans were eager to watch a fierce battle and the drivers had the podium on their minds. Starting in the eighth spot, Brian Brown went to work, methodically passing the drivers ahead of him. In fact, by the end of lap-1 he had already managed to reach second place.
As the race continued, Brown was diligent in his pursuit of the coveted lead position. Persistence eventually paid off when he took the first place spot in the sixth. Once taking over the front position, Brian Brown never looked back. When the waving of the checkered flag signified the crossing of the finish line, Brown had taken the victory, leading the second place driver by three seconds. Looking back, brown said, "It's a very tricky track to get ahold of. I feel we had a great baseline set-up there. We just had to take a chance on the first couple of laps, moving on the track where no-one else was." Recalling as a youngster watching racing greats like Steve Kinser, Sammy Swindle and Doug Wolfgang win at this particular event, Brian Brown obviously found his recent victory at the Devil's Bowl Winternationals rewarding. However, this race was of significance to Brian Brown for other reasons as well. If for no other reason, it validated an incredible season. The victory signified his 16th win of 2013. Of course great driving skills and a commitment to earn his rightful spots on the podium played a huge role in his success, but Brown was also quick to credit his team. "The team is most important, in my eyes." he explained. "A great team and great partners." Of course, experience has taught Brian Brown and his crew that there is no replacement for proper maintenance, and keeping one's car in optimal running condition is the recipe for consistent podium finishes. When asked his take on maintenance, the driver's answer was short and to the point. "Maintenance is important, because if you fall out you can't win." As an advocate of keeping his car running in tip-top condition, Brown is a firm believer in using K&N products to ensure the internal components of his engine remain contaminant free, while still allowing ample air flow to provide stellar performance. "I use the Carbon air cleaner," he explained, "and all of the oil used to protect it. I feel K&N makes a great product that can help our team achieve their goals." Although savoring his recent win at Mesquite, Brian Brown and his crew had very little time to bask in their success. In fact, once the checkered flag had waved, it was time to start thinking about a journey to the Arkansas town of Little Rock, where he would compete in the ASCS Short Track Nationals. Even though the season's end neared, that was no indication that Brian Brown was ready to slack off, as he would also be preparing for the upcoming season. When asked what fans can expect from Brian Brown in the upcoming season, he concluded, "Hopefully, just to build on a strong 2013 season, and to put Brian Brown Racing in Victory Lane a few more times." |
