Harrison Burton celebrating his win at Memphis International Raceway in the K&N Pro Series East

Harrison Burton is slowly running away with the K&N Pro Series East by leading the standings in points. Burton has won three races, the most races of any driver in the series. He has yet to finish outside the top 10. He has six top-five finishes and six top-10 finishes.

In his six starts this year, Burton has accumulated 262 points. Burton, who is a NASCAR Next driver, also is racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and doing well. In his first full year in 2016 in the K&N Pro Series East Standings, Burton finished in seventh place.

“Any time you can win in the K&N Series it’s a whole lot of fun, especially in a place like Memphis,” said Burton, who is a driver for HScott Motor Sports in the K&N Pro Series and Kyle Busch MotorSports in the Truck Series. “Winning my first race was a lot of fun, I could remember when I was a little kid I always wanted to win big races and dreaming of seeing myself on Sundays, and to win my first K&N race at Bristol was really cool.”

In the race at Bristol, Burton started from the pole and led all but two of the 70 laps before rain caused the race to end, giving Burton his first career K&N Pro Series win.

“I feel like every team circles this race on their calendar," Burton said. "We kind of wanted to run the whole race and win it that way. We were confident our car was good enough that we could win it that way. I feel like it would've been cool to cross the line in dry conditions. But, I'll take it. I never wanted it to rain so bad in my life."

Since that race, Burton has enjoyed plenty of success in the series, winning two more races at South Boston in Virginia and most recently, Memphis.

Harrison Burton is currently sitting atop of the standings in the K&N Pro Series East.

“We need to show up to the race track like we always should, there is a reason we are in the position that we are in, we need to go hard and fight for the win, and if we get away from that we will end up hurting ourselves” said Burton.

Burton is the son of former NASCAR Series driver Jeff Burton. The elder Burton was in the stands to watch his son win the race at South Boston. The track holds many fond memories for the whole Burton family. Jeff Burton’s brother, Ward, also raced in the NASCAR Cup Series and started his career at South Boston Speedway.

“We had so much family support when we raced here,” Jeff Burton said “They would sit up there in the third turn and they would call it the third turn Brew Crew. It was a lot of people, They showed us so much support Tonight for Harrison, there were a lot of people on the backstretch here to support him. It’s really cool.”

Harrison Burton has a 28-point lead over Todd Gilliland, the reigning K&N Pro Series West champion who is running both series in 2017. The next NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race is at Berlin Raceway in Michigan.
