K&N Engineering is Sending 5 Lucky Winners and Their Guest to the Indy 500
- Apr 17, 2006
“I have never won anything in my life before this,” said Dirk Levens, of
American Muffler, Brake and Radiator. “I can’t believe I’m going to the Indy
500.”
Dirk Levens is one of 5 winners in the K&N Engineering contest, 2006 Indy or Bust. The 51-year-old Thousand Oaks, California resident said he is thrilled. “I’ve never been to the Indy 500, my wife Joy and I plan to go and have a great time,” he said.
The K&N contest started on May 12, 2005 and ended December 31, 2005. Owners or managers of an Authorized K&N Service Center, (installer of K&N product) sent in photos of a sign attached to their repair facility that said, “K&N Installed Here.” Photos, along with a completed entry form were entered in a drawing. Winners received a trip for 2 to the 2006 Indianapolis 500 Mile race.
“I stock K&N filters and put on a couple of K&N FIPKs (Fuel Injection Performance Kits) a week,” said Levens. “My customers notice a huge increase in power. I work on a lot of trucks, SUV’s and diesels.”
Levens, along with the other 4 winners, will receive a 4-day 3-night trip, roundtrip coach air transportation, hotel accommodations, garage access (except on race day) and grandstand seating at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Nathan Hersey, 28, of Wilson Service Center in Stewarts Town, Pennsylvania is also a winner. “I got the call on a Friday and it made my weekend,” said Hersey. “I really didn’t expect to win.”
Hersey said he gets a lot of feedback from customers that use K&N products. “They comment all the time that K&N filters help with gas mileage and engine performance,” Hersey said. “K&N makes great products,” he said. “I use K&N on my Ford Explorer, Ford Focus, Ford F-150 and Ford Mustang.”
Winners will receive vehicle allowances up to $80 per day for 4 days, one parking pass and $500 in spending money. The approximate retail value of the each prize is $3,000.
K&N selected the winners in a random drawing at the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, California.
Contest winner John King, 66, of Kings Muffler in Bakersfield, California is a very generous man. “I’ve been to the Indy 500 twice so I’m sending my son and his girlfriend. They are very excited about going,” said King. “I’m and oldie but goody and have been working on brakes and front end alignments since 1966. I’ve also used K&N for years.”
When it comes to K&N products, King said he gets all positive feedback from his customers. “They notice better mileage and better horsepower,” he said.
The final winners of K&N’s Indy or Bust contest are:
Joseph Layman - Murph’s Mufflers and More
John King – Kings Muffler
Dirk Levens – American Muffler, Brake and Radiator
Pat Manahan – Madman’s Muffler and Automotive
