K&N Racer Anthony Castillo Wins Super Comp at the 46th Annual NHRA Winternationals

The Super Comp is not about who went to the finish line first, it’s about who
raced the best at the 46th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals at
the Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, California.
“The Super Comp highlights one class of vehicle and is the quickest of three in
Super Class. The racers are made up of gas-burning dragsters, full-bodied
production vehicles and roadsters. Super Comp is a heads-up competition on an
8.0-second index.
Racer Anthony Castillo uses a K&N Engineering oil filter in his 2005 Mullis Dragster. During the final round the air temperature was 80 degrees and the track temperature was 91 degrees. The weather plays a key factor when it comes to the track and racing times, drivers want the best traction possible and when it is 91 degrees conditions are pretty good. When it’s very hot everyone runs slower.
Castillo and Keith Downing had virtually identical reaction times, but it was a double breakout win for Castillo. A breakout refers to a race car running quicker than the driver originally predicted. The driver’s prediction is called the dial-in and is posted on the race car. The driver who breaks out loses the race unless the opponent commits a more serious foul, such as red-light or crossing the centerline of the drag-strip.
“I wasn’t sure if I won until the light came on,” said Anthony. “When we left the line I couldn’t tell who went first.” But Anthony Castillo defeated Keith Downing. Castillo’s class index run is 8.90, and Castillo was able to get as close to his index as he possibly could. Anthony also ran a perfect 8.9 index during the Winternationals. “I’ll take it when I can get it, everything went very smooth,” said Anthony. “My K&N oil filter works, I recommend it.” Anthony raced through 7 rounds to get to the finals. `
Anthony said he plans to use K&N oil filters all season long. “The bearings look good when I pull the engine down and I always use K&N oil filters,” he said.
