K&N Teams Up with Keystone to Build One-of-a-Kind Giveaway Mustang
K&N Teams Up with Keystone to Build One-of-a-Kind Giveaway Mustang
Apr 25, 2017
The 2017 Mustang that K&N built for Keystone along with HRE, Magnaflow, Vogtland, Mickey Thompson, and Baer Brakes
What do you get when you take a 2017 Mustang GT and add in parts from leading automotive aftermarket companies and give people a chance to win said Mustang? You get a recipe for success. That is exactly what K&N did recently with Keystone Automotive, who is the largest wholesale distributor of aftermarket auto parts and accessories in the world. K&N teamed up with several automotive aftermarket companies that also distribute through Keystone. The result of this partnership was a custom 2017 Ford Mustang GT that was in turn given away to one of Keystone’s customers at the 2017 Keystone Big Show West.
John Fulton of The General Store Spokane held the key that started the brand new Mustang
A brand new Mustang GT with the 5.0L Coyote would be enough of a prize on its own. But this Mustang featured performance products from industry leaders. The suspension was upgraded with a Vogtland Sport Suspension kit. This included high tensile chrome silicone springs and sport tuned shocks for dynamic driving performance and a 1-inch lowered aggressive look. A set of 20-inch HRE FF15 one-piece forged wheels in custom gunmetal grey were wrapped in a set of Mickey Thompson Street Comp tires in 275/35R20 up front and 305/35R20 in the rear. These were bolted on at the corners and gave the Mustang the perfect stance. To help the 5.0L V-8 breathe a little easier a K&N 69-3535TP cold air intake was installed, which is good for an estimated 19 horsepower and 16 lb-ft of torque. Getting all of that air out of the engine is a full stainless steel cat-back exhaust from MagnaFlow. With all those ponies under the hood, the brakes were upgraded with a set of Baer Brakes EradiSpeed rotors to complement the 6-piston calipers on the Mustang and give it added stopping power. Finally, to help breathe some life into the sea of plastic under the hood, a set of Spectre underhood caps and covers was installed.
As a celebratory road trip, John drove the car from Dallas back to Spokane
With all of those performance products, most people would love to be given a chance to win this car. Unfortunately, the contest was only open to Keystone customers. The giveaway started at the Keystone Big Show East and was open to any customer. To enter, a Keystone customer had to purchase $500 worth of K&N or a family brand product from Keystone. Each $500 purchase earned an entry into the drawing. At the Keystone Big Show East, K&N-sponsored drift driver Vaughn Gittin Jr. drew a key. Then, three more keys were drawn at random between November and February. Those 4 keyholders were flown to the Big Show West where the 5th keyholder was drawn. With all five keyholders present and accounted for, each one tried to start the vehicle with their key. At the end of the contest, John Fulton of The General Store Spokane turned his key and the big V-8 under the hood came alive. The General Store is a family owned and operated (for lack of better words) general store in Spokane, Washington.
“This was a really cool experience. You know I got up there with the key and since we were the last to be drawn, we were last on stage. Well as soon as number 4 didn’t start it I knew it was us,” explained Fulton. “One of the best parts is my boss flew me back down and I picked the car up and did a little road trip on the way home. I definitely put that car to great use. I want to say thanks to everyone at K&N for putting this together and giving us a chance to win such a cool prize.”
K&N could not be more excited for how this event turned out and would like to send a huge congratulations to John and the rest of the team at The General Store Spokane!
