Long Course Run for GSXR 1000 at Bonneville Salt Flats

Some photos tell their own story, and with one look that photo itself can define
speed. Paul Livingston of Falkner Livingston Racing was going just under 195 mph
on the long course at Bonneville Salt Flats when a lens captured the
motorcyclists doing what he loves at the World Speed Finals.

“Between 120 and 130 mph you can hear the engine,” said Livingston. “After 130
mph the only thing you hear is wind.” The white salt shines under the bikes at
Bonneville and
reflect 11,000 foot mountain peaks.
Livingston took his 2007 GSXR 1000 to the short course first. “I had to get a sticker that qualified me for the long course,” he said. “On the first run I went 180 mph. That did it.” The Bonneville Salt Flats are the perfect stage for high speed racers who have one goal, to set the fastest land speed record in their class.
“I qualified for the record twice,” said Livingston. “On the third run a strong head wind pushed me too hard. The bike was going as fast as it was going to go, but it wasn't enough.”
