The 19-year-old has been running open wheel cars for 10-years. Shaw is the first female driver from New Mexico to compete in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the third youngest female to ever compete in NASCAR history. She is the second youngest female in the Truck Series behind Chrissy Wallace.
“I tested with Red Horse Racing last fall but NASCAR told me I needed stock car experience,” she said. “I started driving late model stock cars at Hickory Motors Speedway in North Carolina and sent my results to NASCAR after each race. Then, I received a call from NASCAR letting me know I was approved to race in the small trucks.”
In 2009, Shaw competed in eight NASCAR late model events and has been in the top ten twice. “It’s great to see some of the hard work paying off,” she said. “It’s also nerve wracking, but everything is falling into place.”
Shaw is a big believer in K&N products. “I’ve used K&N filters for years,” she said. “K&N makes the best products out there. We get excellent filtration and additional horsepower with K&N.” Her Red Horse Racing Toyota truck will also be equipped with K&N products.
“Caitlin will be driving the Toyota Number one truck,” said Tom DeLoach, owner of Red Horse Racing. “It’s fitting for her first time in the truck series. We have great expectations from Caitlin and hope to get her qualified to run a full circuit.”
