The top eight Pro Stock drivers who accumulated the most points while qualifying during the 23-race NHRA series will have a shot at a big purse. The winner of the bonus event will earn $50,000 along with a championship ring and a trophy. The runner-up will pocket $10,000 and two semifinalists will receive $3,000 each. The four first round finishers will each earn $2,500.
Three-time Pro Stock world champion Greg Anderson leads the pack and will take the top spot in the 2009 K&N Horsepower Challenge. He accumulated the most points while qualifying. Mike Edwards is in second place, followed by Allen Johnson, Jason Line, Kurt Johnson, Jeg Coughlin, Warren Johnson and Ron Krisher.
The Pro Stock class is about the delivery of air flow. K&N is in a class of its own when it comes to hood scoops. “K&N has worked hard to create new technology for the NHRA Pro Stock category,” said K&N Vice President of Research and Development Steve Williams. “We have an K&N Pro Stock Intake System available for the world’s fastest hot rods and we are putting up the money to see who is really the fastest.”
K&N has also developed racing filters for every form of racing in the world. K&N air filters are designed to increase horsepower and acceleration while providing excellent filtration.
In 2008, Allen Johnson put a perfect light on the board (.000) and beat Greg Anderson on a hole shot to take home the K&N Horsepower Challenge title along with the $50,000. “We appreciate the opportunity to qualify in the 2009 K&N Horsepower Challenge,” said Anderson. “Everything from K&N works great.”
Anderson is hoping for a reversal of fortune in 2009. “How can anyone win without K&N,” said Anderson. “We all use K&N products out here and are proud to do it. The K&N Pro Stock Intake System is important to the Pro Stock category. It’s a big advantage to get the maximum amount of air to the engine in this class.”
