Open Wheel Modified Victories put Bandit Race Car in the Spotlight
- Jul 21, 2009
Despain Motorsports had back-to-back victories at Clinton County Speedway in Alpha, Kentucky. In the second event, Elliott Despain posted the second fastest time trial lap and easily went on to win his heat race in the Open Wheel Modified Class.
Despain started from the front row in the Modified main event and jumped to the lead in the south-central Kentucky bullring. “Winning two in a row at the same track really helps boost my confidence,” said Despain. “I look forward to coming back to see if I can win again.”

The Despain Motorsports crew did not stop with their latest round of victories. The next night they made a stop at Richmond Raceway in Kentucky. They ran the No. 75 Lucas Oil Products sponsored Bandit Race Car with K&N products in the Modified portion of the Bob Dirt Car Series’ 22nd Annual Paul Wooldridge Memorial Race.
Despain qualified with the sixth fastest time and finished fourth in his heat race. He started at 8th for the 20-lap Modified feature event. At the end of the race, he was third.
Despain Motorsports now has top-five finishes in six out of their last eight races, including two wins and two runner-ups.
“Elliott has been racing since he was only 4-years-old,” said Billy Despain, Elliott’s father. “We would drive 450 miles round trip from our home in Kentucky to a race track in Tennessee when he first started racing Karts. I use to race but Elliott really got the racing gene. He loves it. I just work on the cars.”
The 20-year-old Campbellsville, Kentucky resident will next race at the 9th Annual Bluegrass Rumble in Bardstown, Kentucky.
“We could not win the way we do without K&N,” said Despain. “K&N gives us extra power and keeps the dirt out of our engines. K&N is a big part of Despain Motorsports. We have K&N on all of our vehicles on and off the track.”
