Jason Crump landed the fourth place spot in the FIM Latvijas Mobilais Latvian Grand Prix. It was Crump’s worst Grand Prix result in the 2009 season, but the Australian Double World Speedway Grand Prix Champion left Latvia happy with his final result and relieved that the race was over.

Californian Greg Hancock took first place, Denmark’s Kenneth Bjerre took second and Poland’s Tomasz Gollob took third place. Crump remains overall points champion with 108 points to Hancock’s 79 points.

Crump collected only one point in his first two rides. He switched bikes and grabbed two heat wins during his next two outings. As a result, he had enough points for the semi-finals.
The night was unpredictable for most of the riders. The first ten races had ten different winners. To top it off, Crump had one of the most difficult gates at the start of the final. He fought hard despite his position, and made it through the race for a top five finish.
The seventh round of the 2009 Speedway Grand Prix World Championship takes place next Saturday at Malilla in Sweden. Crump has made the final there each year for the past five years. “Jason need to produce yet another outstanding performance as the championship chase is still wide open,” said Roy Stone, Media Relations Manager. “Jason’s priority is to capture vital points to maintain his lead.”
With the series now past its half-way mark, the two-time World Speedway Champion has a third World Championship in his sights and knows what is required to achieve that goal.
“I struggled in Latvia, but came away satisfied that I at least made the final,” said Crump. “Now I have to just keep scoring consistently and stay focused. This year I am more relaxed due to not riding four or five nights a week. This has helped me greatly. I have time to mentally prepare myself for each Grand Prix and so far it has been paying off.”
Crump has 21 Grand Prix wins to his name. He said he can count on K&N at every race. “In my sport filtration is the most important thing for reliability,” he said. “Reliability keeps me tops in points and gives me World Championships. That is why I rely on K&N filters. I race on dirt and keeping the dirt out of the engine is critical and at the same time K&N allows my engines to breathe for maximum performance.”
Crump has a good and consistent track record in Malilla. “I have a lot of hard work ahead of me,” said the Australian. “I will be fighting to the end to become a World Champion again.”
