Greist led a very strong showing by the ArmsUp squad as the team placed four cars in the top seven in Saturday’s race. Greist’s took his first podium and the best result to date in an SCCA top event for ArmsUp Motorsports.
The Madison, Wisconsin driver started from the outside of row one and fell in line at the wave of the green flag. On turn five, Greist made a move to the outside and moved up to leader Niki Coello.
Greist and Coello raced side-by-side until turn six when the ArmsUp driver wrestled the lead away from Coello. In the heat of their battle, a six car accident stopped racing action until crews repaired the wall where the incident occurred.
On the restart, Coello took first and Greist second position. During the first two laps Greist kept up the pace with the other cars but slowly began to lose touch with the leader. Meanwhile the other ArmsUp drivers, Joe Tovo, Jim Victor and Pat McGinnis were battling each other for top positions.
In the end, Greist crossed the finish line in third position. Tovo took fifth, Victor was sixth and McGinnis placed seventh. “This was an incredible strong showing for our team,” said ArmsUp Motorsports owner Gregg Borland. “The whole crew worked very hard all week long and we put four cars in the top seven. We had a great year and we are looking forward to next season.”
