Top Fuel driver Morgan Lucas Takes Third Place at NHRA Winternationals
- Feb 17, 2006
Top Fuel driver Morgan Lucas made it to the semi-finals at the 46th annual
CARQUEST Auto Parts Winternationals at Pomona Raceway. It was the 22-year-old’s
first outing as team manager and driver of his Lucas Oil dragster, a 500 cubic
inch Chrysler with a 300 inch wheel base and all aluminum motor.
“I run a K&N filter on the motor,” said Morgan Lucas. “It’s a good quality piece and safer product for our vehicle. It can catch a lot of junk.”
Top Fuel dragsters are the fastest-accelerating vehicles in the world. They can cover the quarter-mile in 4.4 seconds at speeds in excess of 335 mph. “My super-charged, nitromethane-burning engine produces between 7,000 and 8,000 horsepower,” said Morgan.
“K&N Filters are easy to install and save us money,” said Morgan. “Saving time is very important during a race.”
“The Winternationals were fun for the whole team,” said Morgan. “To leave Pomona in third place and go to the semis after the first race of the year exceeds all expectations.”
