The Chrysler Pentastar series of aluminum dual overhead cam 24-valve V-6 engines was first introduced at the 2009 New York Auto Show for 2011 model year Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep vehicles, replacing a number of V-6 engines used in various models. The engine design also allows the use of E85 or 87 octane fuel, supports cylinder deactivation, and features dual variable valve timing.

For 2016, an updated version of the 3.6 liter engine was released for the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango.
