The Opel Astra was named "The Most Beautiful Car in the World," during the
Design in Motion 2000 show at Milan. The reason was style, performance and
safety at affordable prices according to an international committee made up of
journalists, artists and designers.
Air Intake for 2000 to 2005 Opel Astra G
K&N Engineering has released a new 69-Series Typhoon Air Intake (69-4900TB)
for the 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 Opel Astra G 1.8L L4.
K&N dynamometer tests show a 6 horsepower gain for this powder coated blue
intake. "It is a straight forward design," said K&N Air Filter Product Manager
Joost Adriaans. "We spent a lot of time making satisfying horsepower gains, by
testing the air flow paths. A 6 horsepower gain is good considering this 1.8L
engine only cranks out 103 horsepower at the wheels." Blue is a very popular
color for this model in Europe, said Adriaans.
With all K&N 69-Series Typhoon Air Intakes there is a thorough development
procedure which requires the use of multiple test vehicles. "The Opel Astra is
one of the best selling cars in Europe," Adriaans said. "Finding donor vehicles
was not a problem."
The design of this vehicle played a major role in the development of this
69-Series Kit. "There was not a whole lot of room in the engine bay," said
Adriaans. "We designed this K&N Kit (69-4900TB)
so the K&N Replacement Filter (RC-9350)
is placed on top of the engine, where the original air box was. The Opel Astra
also has a better throttle response with the K&N Typhoon Air Intake."
The 4th generation Toyota 4Runner is a very sophisticated piece of engineering.
In 2003, its look went athletic and larger. There is more front and rear
legroom, more headroom and 2 inches more shoulder and hip room. It can easily
fit five passengers.
AirCharger Air Intake for 2003 and 2004 Toyota 4Runner
K&N Engineering, Inc. has made a 63 Series AirCharger Intake Kit (63-9022)
for the 2003 and 2004 Toyota 4Runner 4.7L V8. The K&N Typhoon Kit was specially designed
to fit in the engine of the Toyota. ""We hand build these tubes," said K&N
Performance Kit Technical Development Supervisor Kirk Swanson. "We shape it to
hand form it for our dyno to get the best power." The heat shield on
63-9022 fits easily in
the inner fender well.
K&N dyno test have shown a horsepower gain of 13.53 at 5012 RPM with the
63-9022
Intake Kit. K&N's (63-9022) rotationally molded polyethylene Intake Kit uses a
Round Tapered Universal Chrome Top Air Filter (RC-5100) that can fit into the
engine compartment using factory holes and mounting points. "There is a hole
midway on the tube to accommodate a factory hose," said Swanson.

It takes less than an hour to install this kit and the lifetime K&N Air
Filter performs for up to 100,000 miles before service is required depending on
driving conditions.
William Fletcher won the 4th Annual Northwest National Diesel Drag Championships
at Pacific International Raceway in Seattle Washington for the 3rd time on
September 16th.
William Fletcher's 1995 Dodge Diesel Pick-up
“My 12 valve Cummins 1995 Dodge Diesel pick-up truck is currently the
fastest street legal diesel in the world,” said Fletcher. I use K&N Oil Filter
(HP-4003),
and K&N's FIPK. I had excellent air flow because of the FIPK which allowed my huge diesel turbo to spool freely. This
enabled my engine to perform at its maximum horse power to win the 2006
Nationals.”
Fletcher uses K&N’s 57- Series Fuel Injection Performance Kit
57-1525.
At K&N Engineering,
dynamometer test show a 9.17 horsepower increase @ 2560RPM for the 1995
Dodge Ram 5.9L.
“My best time in 2006 is 9.92 at 139 mph,” said Fletcher. “My record was 10.13
at 137mph in 2005.”
NHRDA Racer William Fletcher's 12 valve Diesel
The NHRDA (National Hot Rod Diesel Association) racer bought his first
diesel as a work truck four years ago. “I wanted to get into racing,” said
Fletcher. “I was intrigued by the power a diesel could hold. I use K&N because
of the outstanding performance the products provide.”

Phil Cooper and the Cooper Motorsport/K&N Team has clinched the British
Autograss Class Nine Championship for the 2nd consecutive year and for the 3rd
time overall.
Phil Cooper of Cooper Motorsport/K&N Team
The United Kingdom Supported British Autograss (BAS) racer drove his 300
BHP Lexus Engine ARD Special to victory at the final round held in Lincolnshire.
The British Autograss Championship is held over 5 rounds throughout the UK on
grass and mud oval tracks. Nearly 600 registered competitors compete in 12
classes in specially prepared saloon cars and purpose-built specials. Points are
awarded which count toward final championship places.

Lynn Cooper, Phil Cooper’s mother, also completed a good year for the team
and finished 5th in class nine. The Cooper Motorsport Team uses K&N’s Custom Air
Filter Kit (56-9188-1)
on its team cars.
“We have used K&N Products for many years,” said Mal Cooper of Cooper
Motorsports. “K&N Filters offer the best filtration for our engines. I foolishly
tried another make of filter and they were nowhere near as good as K&N. When you
have 8 or 10 of these specials racing on a dusty or muddy track it is essential
to stop the dirt from entering the inlet track. K&N has the products that we can
rely on so our very expensive machinery is not damaged.”

Sprint car racer Donny Schatz is experiencing the best season in his 10-year
World of Outlaws career. The Fargo, North Dakota driver and his ParkerStore team
are not content with simply finishing up the 2006 season.
On September 29th and 30th, the National Open, sponsored by Cleveland Brothers
and sanctioned by the World of Outlaws will get underway at Williams Grove
Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
World of Outlaws Points Leader uses K&N Carbon Fiber Airbox
Schatz has won three out of the last six National Opens including two in
succession. If he wins this year, he could become only the third driver in the
race’s 43-year-history to have three consecutive National Opens.
“I feel like I’ve got the best crew out there. My guys work hard to give me a
race car this good,” said Schatz. “Our K&N Engineering Carbon Fiber Airbox helps
us achieve maximum horsepower at every race.”
“This is one of those races that hold a lot of tradition and prestige,” said
Schatz. “We kind of won the thing out of nowhere in 2000 and since then, I’ve
really loved racing at the Grove. We haven’t won there yet this season, and that
was one of our goals for the season.”
ParkerStore Sprint Car
The race is shaping up to be a big showdown between World of Outlaws
points leader Schatz and National Sprint Tour points leader Danny Lasoski.
“The competition is really tough out there and I think I learned how to be good
there from being so bad for so long,” said Schatz. “This is the time of year
when everyone is thinking about next year and trying new things. We’re doing the
same, but we also know this race pays $50,000-to-win.”
In five 2006 starts at the half-mile dirt oval, Schatz has not finished outside
the top five. He said the key to the weekend is getting off on the right foot on
the first night. The Friday night 25-lap feature will pay $5000 to win.
“We have to get locked in Friday night,” said Schatz, who has a total of nine
career wins at Williams Grove Speedway. “The last two years we’ve finished in
the top four on the first night and that really helps set you up for the Open.
You have to qualify well enough to be close to the front and then make it
through your heat race. With the quality of cars getting through the heats can
be pretty tough. Like any big race, you have to have some luck go your way, take
advantage of the breaks when they are there and put yourself in a position to
win with 10 laps to go.”
Schatz and the ParkerStore Team will only have six races remaining in the 2006
WoO season after Williams Grove.
