Chris Carr broke the world motorcycle land speed record at the Bonneville Salt
Flats with his new BUB Enterprises Streamliner motorcycle. The five-time
defending AMA Ford Quality Checked Flat Track Champion re-wrote the record books
at the International Motorcycle Speed Trials by BUB. Carr ran a two pass 350.8
mph average which included a monster 354 mph pass in the Denis Manning designed
BUB streamliner.
Record Breaking Ford Quality Checked BUB Streamliner
His record became official on September 7 by representatives from sanctioning
bodies at Bonneville Salt Flats’ FIM/AMA Sports. Earlier on Thursday, the ACK
Attack team scrambled at the salts in an effort to top Carr. The drama unfolded
after the ACK Attack was unable to complete their mission, hit the chutes early
and pulled off the track.
Several million dollars went into the V-four turbo-charged three liter motor
designed and built by Manning. It reaches nearly 500 horsepower and is in a
chassis made of Kevlar and carbon fiber.
K&N Engineering supports the team with its Performance Gold High-Flow Oil Filter
HP-3002. “I wanted to thank K&N for their long time support of the BUB
Streamliner World Record attempt,” said Carr. “K&N’s high quality oil filters give us assurance that the motor will run smoothly and without restriction. At
these speeds we cannot have engine failure.”

K&N Engineering is proud to present the NHRA Pacific SPORTSnationals at
California Speedway. Some of the best Sportsman racers in the West will assemble
at Auto Club Dragway from September 28 through October 1.
The SPORTSnationals are NHRA national events which highlight NHRA’s sportsman
categories. Competition Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas
and Super Street along with the division’s Top Comp and Super Eliminator
categories will be showcased. K&N is also promoting grass roots and
semi-profession NHRA racing.

K&N's Jonathan Fiello's 2003 Undercover Dragster
Steve Williams, Bob Harris, Jonathan Fiello and Tom Brown work for K&N and
will race in the SPORTSnationals.
“Competing at an event that is sponsored by the company I work for is pretty
cool,” said Tom Brown. “Not every racer can say the same thing.” Brown competes
in Competition Eliminator in the F/ED (F/Econo Dragster) class. His chassis is a
2005 Custom 195” wheel base dragster. Brown’s father, Gene Brown, built the
engine and it is a normally aspirated 187 cubic inch Pontiac four-cylinder. Tom
Brown said the best part of racing is the adrenaline rush with each pass.
“Currently my dad and I have equipped our car with a
K&N Intake Scoop
(100-8505),” said Brown. “We saw an immediate change in the air/fuel ratio the
first time we ran with the scoop. The engine had leaned out significantly which
indicated the there was more air flow into the carburetors.”
K&N's Bob Harris' 2000 Chevy Corvette
K&N's Tom Brown's 2005 Competition Eliminator
K&N’s Jonathan Fiello drives a 2003 Undercover 4-link dragster in the Top
Comp class. It has a 638 cubic inch fuel injected big block Chevrolet. “Knowing
I’m at the track representing the race sponsor is an honor,” said Fiello. “I
fell like there are more eyes on me and this drives me to do better. It also
helps with potential and existing customers when questions come up about K&N
Products.”
Fiello’s best time to date is 7.14 at 188 mph. He said the best part of racing
is the thrill of victory. “I use K&N Oil Filter
HP-3002 and the
E-3003,” said Fiello. “The oil filter is the best on the market and it prevents contaminates
from damaging the motor. The E-3003 K&N Filter covers the fuel injection nozzles
and prevents debris from clogging the nozzle.”
Bob Harris also works for K&N and drives a 2000 convertible Chevy Corvette built
by Gary Hansen Race Cars. The motor in the car was built at K&N by John Reedy.
The vet is 565 cubic inches and makes a 1000 + horsepower.
“Competing at a K&N sponsored race can be good and bad,” said Harris. “The bad
part is you have a little extra pressure to do real well. The good part is when
you win the race your employer put on.” Harris won the K&N Filters NHRA
Winternationals at Pomona in 2004. “That was a great experience,” he said. “The
feeling of going 0 mph to 160+ mph is the best. The competition in my class is
unreal. When you have a good day racing it feels real good. The other good part
about racing is hanging out and bench racing with all your friends at the
track.”
Steve Williams’ NHRA career began in 1990. The K&N Vice President of Product
Development and Engineering compiled 16 semi-final and 4 final round
appearances, winning in Seattle in 2003. In addition, Williams won Division
Championships in 1991 and 1998 in Super Comp and Super Gas. In 1999, he was
runner-up in the Super Gas Division at the K&N Filters Winternationals in
Pomona, California. Williams uses K&N Air and Oil filters and the
K&N Composite
Intake Scoop on his vehicles.
“I’m going to race my new 2006 Ben Worthy Chassis Rear Engine Dragster and my
1962 Corvette Super Gas at the SPORTSnationals,” said Williams. “I love the
camaraderie and the fierce competition. It’s also a big deal to finish in the
top ten.”
K&N Engineering, Inc. has a long history of experience, combined with first-hand

There are only two races left in the NHRA Pacific Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing
Series and Greg Boutte is in the top ten.
The Super Comp class racer runs a 2002 Worthy Rear Engine Dragster with a 235
inch wheelbase and a 598 cubic inch motor. At Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield,
California Boutte defeated Alexis Dejoria.
Super Comp Racer Greg Boutte
“There is a lot of pressure to win,” said Boutte. “It’s so hard to get to
the final round, let alone win a race. I was a runner-up at Fallon and in
Fontana last year, and I put a lot of pressure on myself to win this year. I
pushed the envelope.”
At Bakersfield, Boutte started around 9:30 a.m. with the KD Canopy shoot out.
“The race within a race takes the top 4 qualifiers of the first two top time
trials and puts them on a true race ladder of the top four,” he said. “I won the
KD Canopy shoot out then moved on to 7 more rounds of racing. The final round
ended at 10:21 p.m.”
Greg Boutte's 2002 Worthy Rear Engine Dragster
Boutte races against other drivers, the clock and himself. In each
category, the NHRA has time indexes based on horsepower and weight of the car.
Racers have to get as close to the index as possible without getting there too
fast. “I stay in my motor home between races,” said the Stockton, California
racer. “I keep an eye on the classes that are running ahead of me to watch and
see the trend. At sea level, our class index is 8.9 and I have to stay focused.
It’s also important to hydrate and eat well. Racers are athletes and I try to
stay in good shape by working out a couple of times a week.”
Boutte has competed in Super Comp for 15 years and competes in about 20 races a
year, beginning at Pomona, California in February and ending at Pomona in
November. Boutte also won the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 7 in
Super Comp at Southwestern International Raceway in Arizona in 2003.
“I use K&N Engineering Air and Oil Filters,” said Boutte. “K&N makes excellent
products. The dirt stays out of my engines and air flow is consistent going into
the carburetor. K&N gives me an edge.”

The Mercury Milan is the corporate twin to Ford's Fusion and shares
architecture, drive train configuration and safety technology. Both ride on a
stretched widened version of the highly acclaimed Mazda 6 platform, providing
good handling from the four-wheel independent suspension and rack and pinion
system.
K&N Engineering has designed a filter (33-2357) to fit in the factory air box of
the 2006 to 2009 Mercury Milan and Ford Fusion with a 2.3L engine, 2010 to 2011 Mercury Milan with a 2.5L engine, and 2010 to 2012 Ford Fusion 2.5L engine models. The drop-in
design means adding performance is easy. Simply remove the disposable air filter
in the Milan or Fusion and replace it with the K&N Air Filter.
Replacement Air Filter for Mercury Milan and Ford Fusion
Unlike disposable filters, K&N Air Filters use a unique pleated design
consisting of an oiled cotton fabric between two layers of epoxy-coated aluminum
screen. The filters capture airborne dirt particles and allow high volume air
flow. These particles then cling to the outside of the filter and become part of
the filtering media.
The washable, reusable, high flow flat panel filter is designed to increase
horsepower and acceleration, while providing excellent filtration. The (33-2357)
is 1.063 inches in height (27mm) with an outside length of 10.438 inches (265mm)
and an outside width of 6.25 inches (159mm).
K&N invented the concept of washable, reusable filters more than 35 years ago.

The Twin Cam Harley-Davidson engine was the first engine change for Harley in
more than a decade. It boasts 88 cubic inches, dual cams, O-ring based gaskets.
Twist the throttle and there is a difference, the bike passes instant power with
a twist of the wrist.
K&N Engineering developed a RK-Series Air Filter Assembly (RK-3909-1)
built around the legendary K&N High-Flow Air Filter. The latest addition is
designed to get more horsepower and retain the stock appearance for
1999 to 2012 Twin Cam Harley-Davidson engines.
Custom Air Cleaner Assembly for Harley Davidson Motorcycles
"The custom assembly
(RK-3909-1)
keeps the factory appearance by using the stock air cleaner cover," said K&N
Powersports Application Coordinator Lisa Watson. "There is superior filtration
and performance with a K&N stamped laser-etched beauty ring."
The new RK- Series Assembly has a powder coated billet aluminum backplate that
eliminates external breathers and features a built-in, dyno-tuned velocity
stack. The result is a significant airflow increase to the engine without
sacrificing filtration.
At this time the RK- Series Air Filter Assembly (RK-3909-1)
does not fit Twin Cam Engines with the Magnetti-Morelli fuel injection system.
"The Magnetti-Morelli systems have an oval port," said Watson. "This K&N kit
fits a round port."
As with all K&N Motorcycle High-Flow Air Filters, the RK-Series Air Filters can be cleaned,
re-used and is backed by the famous K&N Million Mile Limited Warranty.
