CSK Driver Phil Burkart Battles Heat at Bandimere Speedway

Phil Burkart was solid at Saturday’s qualifying session at Bandimere Speedway in Denver. The Checker, Schuck’s, Kragen Monte Carlo driver held on to his No. 6 spot for race day.

On a weekend where 140-degree track temperatures were common, a blazing sun made watching from the stands a survival sport. Burkart and his team were consistent on Friday and Saturday. They entered eliminations with high hopes, but those hopes were tempered by a variety of equalizers.

Burkart paced Team CSK during qualifying, putting four solid laps on the board when many of the elite teams were happy to get from end-to-end just once or twice. His Friday night run, a strong 4.952, earned him a solid place in the top half of the field.

Burkart uses K&N Engineering Oil Filters (HP-5001) during the NHRA Racing Season. “The K&N Filter is absolutely optimal for the demands our race cars face,” said Team Worsham Manager Bob Wilber. “Time is crucial and the K&N Filter is easy to install, we literally spin it on with one hand and tighten it.”

“We ended up with a top-half position, so it’s not surprising that we were in the top half in both sessions,” said Burkart. “We just have a sold race car, and it’s doing what we ask it to do.”

However, Burkart ended his Denver weekend with his CSK completely sideways before bowing out to Eric Medlen in round one. No glory in this conclusion after a strong build-up.

“When it’s this hot, at any track, wild stuff will happen,” said Burkart. “Add in the fact we’re a mile high and then factor in the way the ladder lined up, with top-ranked cars scattered all through the 16-car filed, and all the match-ups looked like toss-ups to me. We knew we could run well, but we also knew the whole first round would be a total adventure.”

In fact, John Force managed no better than the 10th spot, while his teammate Eric Medlen landed 11th. Cruz Pedregon brought up the bottom of the sheet in the No. 16 position, while Gary Densham surprised the filed when he grabbed the No. 1 spot. With Burkart qualifying 6th, a first-round run with Medlen was scheduled.

“We had a bit of a long morning, chasing a leak in the fuel system,” said Burkart. We got it all sorted out about 15 minutes before the first pair of Top Fuelers. When you go through that sort of thrash, you hope it’s one of the indicators that everything is going to go your way. I was pretty pumped up. I just wanted to go out there and win the round.”

Burkart maintained his position at the flash of amber on Sunday. His .083 light gave him a big jump on Medlen, and the two took off for the far end as the heat waves glimmered above the very hot track. Burkart led at the first timer, but the cars were basically dead even by 330-feet. At that point, Burkart’s car made a wild move on the slick surface, and he quickly corrected to straighten the car out. Doing that, the rear end attempted to swap locations with the nose of the car, and the blue CSK Monte Carlo violently fishtailed. Burkart was able to calm the car down, bring it back straight and continue down the track without crossing the center line or hitting the wall, but the day was over.

“It got out there pretty far, but the guys told me we dropped a cylinder at the hit,” said Burkart. “Dropping holes here is nothing new, especially on dangerously hot days, but for some reason the car got very loose out there. You don’t have time to think, you just react. It got loose, I brought it back, and the rear end swung out wide. It was pretty sideways for a while, but I got it back again. That part was all instinct, and I’m glad we didn’t hit anything, but as soon as I was going straight again I saw Eric heading off into the distance and I knew we’d lost.”

Next, Burkart and his team head to Seattle.

K&N Makes a Great ATV Better with Improved Airflow and Performance

The TRX450R is not just another four-wheeler. It is one of the most anticipated quads of the past 15 years. ATV enthusiasts like the motor which has the basic architecture of the motorcycle and the engine cases' interior webbing that was completely redesigned.

For 2006, the TRX450R is all new from the ground-up, with more power and an electric start option. For hardcore race and sport ATV's K&N Engineering has a new Powerlid (HA-4506-T) that eliminates restrictive ATV intake snorkels by replacing the stock air box lid with a high airflow lid.

The Powerlid uses K&N washable and reusable filter technology to make a great ATV even better with improved airflow. "When you use a Powerlid, it changes the stock jetting considerably," said K&N Powersports Brand Manager Johnny Jump. "Typically it can be difficult to find the right jets to make the bike run perfectly. K&N supplies the right jets to make sure the rider can tune his bike accurately and ride it immediately." HA-4506-T is designed for the 2006 to 2014 Honda TRX450R and 2006 to 2014 Honda TRX450ER.

All K&N Powerlids come with a PreCharger filter wrap for the lid and a carburetor jet selection kit if required. "A Pre-Charger/Dry Charger Filter wrap helps to increase the service life of the Filter and helps stop particles of dirt from clogging up the filter," said Jump. "It is typically used in longer off-road races."

Ups and Downs Define World of Outlaws Weekend for Jeremy Campbell

It was a bittersweet weekend for the Jeremy Campbell Motorsports team. On the positive side Campbell had a strong showing in his first ever Kings Royal start at Eldora Speedway; on the negative side Campbell battered a considerable amount of equipment.

World of Outlaws racer Campbell ran very well in his heat race and was working his way through A Feature traffic when he got into a rut and flipped. Both Campbell and the car were hurt but they were ready to race the next day on the high-banked, high-speed half-mile oval.

Campbell uses K&N Engineering Air and Oil Filters on his sprint car. “The K&N Products protect my engine,” said Campbell. “With all the debris on the field the K&N Filters keep the dirt out.”

More than 50 cars were on hand at The Knight Before the Kings Royal. Campbell struggled and started in the C Feature. A car broke in front of him and Campbell went up and over again for back to back DNFs (did not finish).

On Saturday Campbell was on the front row of the heat race and transferred directly to the A Feature for his first Kings Royal. Working his way forward in the feature he was lapped right before a caution which locked him into position. Campbell finished 13th.
“I really felt like we had a stronger car than 13th,” Campbell said. “With the luck we’ve had this weekend we’ll take thirteen and try harder next week. We have too many races ahead of us to dwell on the ones that are over.”

Because the Kings Royal is a special format, the race does not count toward the March to the Mean 15. The World of Outlaws action continues Tuesday at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania. Next are the Williams Grove Summer Nationals Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Sprinters come in 2500 (three-quarter ton) and 3500 (one-ton) ratings however the 2500 series is the only one to include a passenger model that fits up to ten occupants. Two people sit up front and as many as three more rows of seats can be installed. Sprints have a flat cargo floor storage space ranges from 247 to 473 cubic feet.

K&N Engineering has designed a lifetime replacement Air Filter (33-2319) for the 2004, 2005, 2006 Dodge Sprinter 3500 2.7L L5 and the 2004, 2005, 2006 Dodge Sprinter 2500 2.7L L5.

Lift the hood of the Sprinter and the K&N Air Filter is custom designed to fit in the factory air box. The drop-in design means adding performance is simple, just remove the disposable air filter in the Sprinter and replace it with K&N's Air Filter (33-2319).

The washable, reusable, high flow flat panel filter is designed to increase horsepower and acceleration while providing excellent filtration. The (33-2319) is 1.5 inches in height (38mm) with an outside length of 12.375 inches (314 Mm) and an outside width of 10.875 inches (279mm).

The filters capture airborne dirt particles while allowing high volume air flow. These particles than cling to the outside of the filter and become part of the filtering media.

The pleating on K&N Filters for street vehicles are covered by our famous K&N Million Mile Limited Warranty and will be the last air filter your vehicle will ever need.
