ASCS Midwest Northern Plains Race at I-80 Speedway in Nebraska with Billy Alley
- Apr 16, 2009
Rain made the track slick and fast. In the heat run, Billy Alley’s No. 22 was the last car to lock into the main event. Alley immediately circled three cars in turn one. By lap nine, he was in the lead. “I could not tell you who I was passing, or what lap it was,” said Alley. “When things are going well, my car talks to me and I feel like we are one. I’m in a zone.” Alley ran 25 laps and took the win.
“I’ve been using K&N air filters since I started racing go-carts in 1997 when I was 13-years-old,” said Billy Alley. “I started racing sprint cars in 2001 and have used K&N every year. The K&N sprint car air box lets in more air and gives me more power. It also keeps the dirt out of the engine.”
On the next night the track started out slick and ended in a rubber lined track from tire debris. Billy Alley drove from fourth to second in his heat. “We got what we could out of that heat,” he said. “The big thing with 46 cars is locking up the A Main and that’s what I did.”
Billy Alley started in tenth place and quickly moved into fifth. “The rubber made the track a one-lane freeway,” he said. “At the beginning of the race, we were pretty good. We got faster as the race went on. We ended in fifth place. It’s hard to judge the conditions of a racetrack sometimes. That’s racing.”
