Worsham came into the race in tenth place and quickly pushed his special-edition Checker, Schuck's, Kragen Impala Funny Car past rookie Bob Tasca in the first round. Worsham increased his series points total by having three drivers ahead of him in points either fail to qualify or lose their first round laps. It also added some breathing room for Worsham over Tasca who had entered the race trailing him by a single point in the series

"I get up every morning and think about every qualifying run," Worsham said. "Between now and the Countdown, you can earn your spot or blow it on qualifying points."

Del Worsham and the CSK Team use K&N Engineering Oil Filters (HP-5001) every time they race. "The thick canister walls on the K&N Filters have extra strength and durability," said Team Worsham manager Bob Wilber. "It reduces the risk of damage from debris on the race track. We wouldn't dream of entering a race without K&N Filters."

Worsham's last win was in the special-edition K&N Filters/CSK Impala Funny Car at the 2008 O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston, Texas, defeating both John and Ashley Force.

Worsham and the CSK Team will look to increase their NHRA POWERade series points at the O'Reilly NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals May 16th through 18th in Bristol, Tennessee.

Angola Motor Speedway Opener Great Win for K&N Filters Rapid Racecar

Racers heated up a cool night at the Angola Motor Speedway in Fremont, Indiana at the start of the 2008 track season. After a long winter, fans packed the stands ready to watch the Superior Auto Modifieds battle it out.

Brad Springer and the Springer Motorsports team qualified on the pole in their No. 61 K&N Filters Rapid Race car open wheel modified Todd Sherman chassis. Springer’s Chevy powered motor is built by Rapid City Racecars. Springer races three engines with K&N Engineering products.  At the Superior Auto sanctioned event in Indiana he ran his 377cc engine.

This event was not part of the USA Modified Series. The season opener was a track sanctioned event. “Angola is my home track,” said Springer. “This race was for bragging rights. I just like to race, I really don’t care if it’s for a series or not. I just want to have fun. I had fun when I shot t-shirts into the crowd on opening night.”

The racing got exciting after a few cautions. Darwin Wolfe started up front and looked as if he would go all the way. But Springer worked his way from deep in the field to get right behind Wolfe on lap 20.  Springer passed him on lap 25 after a huge battle and pulled away for the win.

“This was my third win in a row at my home track,” said Springer. “I just wanted to keep my nose clean in this race.  I won the season championship at Angola last year and started off this year just like I wanted to.”

Springer uses K&N air and oil filters. “I’ve used K&N air filters for years, but this is my first season with the K&N oil filters,” he said.  Springer said he is a picky mechanic. “I work on cars and know what works and what does not,” he said. “Before I tried the K&N oil filter, I cut it open to look inside.  I’m highly impressed.  People want to give me products all the time because of my racing experience, but I will not use it unless it’s top notch. The K&N product line is impressive.”

Springer plans on contending for the USA Modified Championship. He will also compete in up to 15 Dirt Late Model shows in 2008.  His next race is the “Night Before 500” at the O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indy.

NHRA Drag Racer Aaron Kinard Wins Super Comp at Firebird Raceway

Kinard defeated K&N Engineering’s Vice President of Research and Development Steve Williams in the final round. Williams, winner of the 2008 Phoenix National Event in February, is a heavy hitter on the track. "Steve Williams was the toughest racer on paper that I've ever had to face," said Kinard. "I've known him for a long time and have tremendous respect for him. I missed the tree and he would have won if he had not gone red. It was a bittersweet win for me."

The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series 38th Annual Napa Auto Parts Ignitor event was Kinard’s third win in less than a year with his 2006 Race Tech 565 cubic inch dragster. Kinard won a Southern California Super Comp Association race, the Jeg’s Sportsnationals in September and now the Boise Division 6 race.

“I started racing motocross with K&N Engineering products more than twenty years ago,” said Kinard. “My dad Larry Kinard raced too, and it’s in me.” Kinard left motocross after a bad injury, but wanted to stay in racing. “I have a cage around me in Super Comp,” he said.

The K&N Engineering sponsored racer uses K&N products on and off the track. “K&N works,” said Kinard. “My engines stay clean and are protected.” The San Marcos, California resident is first in his division and ninth in the national in Super Comp.

“My car ran perfect at Boise,” said Kinard. “When I lose it’s because I screw up, it’s not my car.” Kinard will head to a Super Comp Association race, then he goes to Fallon, Nevada.

Pacific Offshore Super Series Kicks off Powerboat Racing at Lake Havasu

The Pacific Offshore Powerboat Racing Association (POPRA) began its 2008 Super Series season at Lake Havasu, Arizona. Twenty boats each ran ten laps around a 4.9 mile oval. K&N sponsored boat Worthy Risk took first place with an average lap speed of 87.10 mph in the Production 3 class.

“There were more than 200 boats registered,” said Worthy Risk owner Brad Johnson. “There was also a street party where many of the high end and extreme race boats were on display. The engine hatches were open and we saw that many boat owners are turning to K&N filters for their engine needs.”

When it was time to hit the water, all bows lined up in a single row running around 50 mph. “This is a standard offshore running start,” said Johnson. “The Production 3 class began its run in a new two-by-two NASCAR style start.” Teams are placed according to their finish in the previous race. Worthy Risk and the No. 28 race team were in the front row ready to take on the competition.

“The entire Production 3 class had its sights on turn one which was about three miles down the course,” said Johnson. “The first group went into turn one four wide with only inches between them.” The Worthy Risk team narrowly missed the No.10 boat and moved to the front of the line. Worthy Risk took the win.

“We use K&N Engineering air and oil filters,” said Johnson. “We can’t beat the additional performance and filtration K&N gives us each time we race.” The Worthy Risk team will be in Long Beach, California this coming July for the next POPRA series race
