Bud Kaeding had one thing in mind as he went into the Budweiser Oval Nationals,
to become the first driver to reach three wins in the prestigious event at the
Perris Auto Speedway in California.
Bud Kaeding wins 2nd K&N Silver Crown Title
The 27-year-old went into the year’s series as a part-time non-wing sprint car
driver. He managed to beat the best in the business to win his third career Oval
Nationals Title. “I’m so excited right now I can’t believe it,” said Kaeding.
“My wife is pregnant and this will definitely help buy some diapers. I’m so
happy for this whole team.”
The Budweiser Oval Nationals began as an event in 1996 and is arguable the
biggest non-wing sprint car race in the country. The 12th installment of this
event kicked off with a field of 68 wingless 410 series sprint cars. The three
night show uses a points format and there is a lot of action.
Kaeding qualified eighth quickest on opening night in the stacked field aboard
the Kaeding Performance, BK Motorsports, High Five Pizza No. 29 with K&N
Engineering Products. He was able to transfer to the feature.
Kaeding was able to take the win and claim the $30,000 purse. The Campbell,
California resident and his crew use K&N Engineering Products. “K&N Airboxes an
Oil Filters work great,” he said. “Our engine builder wouldn’t use anything
else. K&N Products helped us win the Oval Nationals Title and took us all the way to the K&N Silver Crown Title.” Kaeding
had enough points and only needed to start the 100-mile Copper World Classic
feature at Phoenix, Arizona International Raceway to lock up his second
consecutive K&N USAC Silver Crown Championship.
In January, Kaeding will be toasted as USAC’s K&N Silver Crown driving champion
for the second straight year. The champions will gather at Indianapolis, Indiana for USAC’s Night of Champions National Awards dinner.
