Chryslers Design Excellence award at SEMA (Specialty Equipment Marketing
Association) 2007 went to Burnsville Offroad for its 6.1 and 6.4 Hemi Jeep
Wrangler (JK) installations.

4 WD JeepWranger (JK) with K&N
“We were the only exhibitor at SEMA in Las Vegas this year with a fully functional and
drivable Hemi JK installation,” said Dan McKeag, owner of Burnsville Offroad. “We use a
brand new crate motor and we mate that to a half-ton Dodge truck transmission
that can handle additional power. We started to do this more than a year ago
when the 2007 Wrangler JK hit the market.”

Burnsville Offroad had six Jeeps with Hemi installations at SEMA 2007
Burnsville Offroad had six Jeep’s with Hemi installation’s at SEMA. “When the JK
came Chrysler put a 3.8 liter minivan motor in it,” said McKeag. “It was the
same engine used in its Caravans for many years. The rest of the world figured
out very fast there wasn’t enough power in the factory engines. I saw the need in the
market place for more power and filled it.”
McKeag has sold 50 turnkey installations in 2007. “We have true 5.7, 6.1 and 6.4 liter engine programming
especially suited for each JK application,” he said. “Each one of our builds is
equipped with K&N Engineering products. I have used K&N for 20 years and it’s
the real deal. The power and filtration from K&N is second to none. Our
installations get 17 to 18 miles-per-gallon with 37 inch tires on the freeway.
The 3.8 liter factory engine we ran only got 12 miles-per-gallon.”
Burnsville Offroad said they take two to three weeks to outfit each Jeep and
have shipped them as far away as Beijing, China. “We had to open a second shop in
Burnsville, Minnesota to handle all the Hemi swaps,” said McKeag. “I could have sold all
six of the Jeeps I brought to SEMA several times over. It was great to be
honored by the judges. They said they were impressed with our technical
applications.”
Some modifications to the 4WD Jeep Wrangler (JK) by Burnsville Offroad are as follows:
The Peugeot 106 is still popular in Europe, even though the last one rolled off
the production line in 2003. One of the most popular colors in France is blue
and K&N Engineering has released a performance intake system (69-7502TB)
in blue for good looks under the hood.
Air Intake for Peugeot 106
The short-ram induction system is designed for the 1996,
1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 Peugeot 106 1.6 liter engine. The
Peugeot is relatively small and there is very little room in the engine
compartment. K&N originally had problems with the battery blocking the way. K&N
engineers went through several prototypes and series of tests before completing the design. This resulted in great performance and a nice fit.
A large chrome top K&N high flow air filter (RC-5136)
allows free flowing air into the intake tube for virtually unrestricted air flow
and increased dirt capacity. The K&N cold air intake design provides excellent air
filtration and lower restriction than the factory air box system which means
more usable power and acceleration.
The
69-7502TB can be easily installed in 90 minutes or less and is backed by the
K&N Million Mile Limited Warranty.
Rick Dore is known for his radical custom cars. The Arizona vehicle stylist
brought several cars to SEMA (Specialty Equipment Marketing Association) 2007 at
Las Vegas, Nevada. They were equipped with K&N Engineering products.

Rick Dore says K&N gives him radical horsepower
His 2008 HHR design was recognized by General Motors as Best SUV of the
SEMA Show. Dore gets the inspiration for his creations from desert landscapes.

enthusiasts worldwide.

“It’s always nice to be recognized at SEMA,” said Dore. “When I go there I want
people to go there and really like my stuff. I’m known for the new cars but I
really love working on the radical custom older cars.”
Dore started his career in the automotive industry more than a decade ago. His
resume contains a full list of awards. He has been named Builder of the Year on
many occasions by hot rod magazines and custom car organizations. He also won
the Heritage Award from Ford two years ago. Dore’s list includes the Harley
Bradley Design Achievement and World’s Most Beautiful Custom awards.
“I have three cars on covers of magazines in Germany and Holland,” said Dore. “I
also designed a 1953 Skylark for Metallica’s James Hetfield. This year, James
and I will do a 1937 Ford. The Skylark is equipped with K&N Filters and the 1937
Ford also will have K&N.”
Dore said he likes to be unconventional with his designs. “One thing I don’t
change is K&N,” he said. “A lot of other companies claim they give you more
horsepower, but K&N really does. I notice a radical difference in performance
when I add K&N. The other good thing about the product is I can easily make K&N
fit on the older cars.”
Some of the add-ons to the 2008 HHR from SEMA are:
K&N: 63-3056

Art Hinsl: paint
Cardinal Electronics
Kicker Audio: stereo
E&G Classic: grille
Bonspeed: wheels

This filter is designed to achieve high, virtually unrestricted air flow while maintaining filtration levels critical to ensure long engine life.
K&N Replacement Air Filters are washable, reusable, and will protect your engine for the life of your vehicle. K&N's 33-2395, is backed by the famous K&N Million Mile Limited Warranty.

Travis Kvapil and the K&N Team went into the Homestead-Miami race hoping to turn
their luck around and win a fifth race in the 2007 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series
Finale.
Travis Kvapil
No. 6 K&N Filters Ford F-150
At the start the No.6 K&N Filters Ford F-150 looked strong, but an
untimely caution took the team out of contention for a win and put them one lap
down, forcing Kvapil to finish 21st.
No. 6 K&N Filters Team
Travis Kvapil finished 6th in series
At Friday’s practice session the K&N Filters No. 6 was a top contender as Kvapil
clocked several top-10 lap times. In his final qualifying effort of the season, Kvapil
piloted the K&N Ford around the 1.5 mile oval in 31.585 seconds. This put him in
10th place for the start of Friday night’s race.
By lap 11, Kvapil was in 6th place. The first of four cautions flew on lap 21
when the No.03 spun and Kvapil radioed to the pit crew that the K&N truck needed
more grip. K&N team crew chief Mike Beam made plans for a wedge and air pressure
adjustment on the following pit stop. Kvapil resumed the race under green flag
conditions on lap 19 in sixth.
Kvapil moved as high as fourth place but settled into fifth when the first round
of pit stops began on lap 54. Kvapil had a strong truck, but the F-150 was aero
sensitive and it was difficult for him to move through traffic. On lap 58,
Kvapil hit pit road for four tires, fuel and air pressure adjustment. Things did
not go as planned and Kvapil returned to the track in 26th.
On lap 74 Mike Skinner lost a left rear wheel and was taken out of the
championship hunt. The caution also took Kvapil out of the hunt for a win
because it trapped him and several others. This left only 11 trucks on the lead
lap.
The field went back to green flag conditions but Kvapil could only get to 20th
before the final caution fell on lap 132. To avoid a wreck Kvapil slowed up and
dropped back to 22nd. He was able to gain one spot and finished 21st.
“It took everything we could do get back to the front,” said Kvapil. “It’s a
good track and we were running in the top-five early there and got a lap down on
pit road. That’s part of racing. But you hate it when slower trucks benefit from
it. It also cost us a couple of spots in the points.”
Kvapil dropped three points in the overall points standings to finish out the
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season in sixth place. He led a total of 847 laps
in the season and was a contender every week for 25 weeks. In 2008, Kvapil will
race into the Sprint Cup Series behind the wheel of a Doug Yates Ford.
