“He worked the side of the racetrack like a veteran,” said Chad Boat’s father Billy Boat. “Chad moved around and set his sights on leader Charles Davis. Chad and Davis battled side-by-side for two laps until Chad made the pass stick and eventually pulled away for the win.”

Chad Boat grew up with racing. His father Billy raced Indy cars and took his son to a race track for the first time when he was two weeks old. “I’ve used K&N Engineering Products for a long time,” said Billy Boat. “When Chad starting racing K&N made the air and oil filters we turned to. We are a racing family and we wouldn’t use any other filter.”

Chad Boat’s win was great for the family. “My cars are running really fast this year,” said the teen. “I eventually want to race professionally one day, but I’m leaning toward NASCAR.”

Next up for Chad Boat is a seven week trip to the bullrings of Indiana. The team has 22 races on the agenda for the next couple of weeks at various tracks.

Dream Victory for Teen with Tri-C Karters in Beaumont, California

Jacob Pearlman had a main goal when his 2007 racing season began. The 14-year-old Carlsbad, California resident wanted to win at Moran Raceway. After three years of trying, JP earned a first place victory at the Tri-C Karters May meet at Moran.

The Tri-C Karters is one of the largest clubs in the Western portion of the United States. There are nearly 200 entries on a typical race day in both the HPV-2 and HPV-4 Junior classes. JP dominated the day earning two poles as the top qualifier in both classes.

In the 10 lap HPV-4 Junior heat race, JP led the field and stayed out front to win by over 8 seconds. The HPV-2 race started out the same. He lead every lap and won the heat.

In the HPV-2 main, Pearlman led the first two-thirds of the race with recurring engine problems. He was able to take 2nd place.

“The HPV-4 Junior main was a dog fight between Jacob and his friend Bobby Kelly,” said JP’s father Richard Pearlman. “JP’s motor began to fade and Bobby picked up the pace. JP took the early lead with Kelly right on his rear bumper. They ran that way for several laps. JP was constantly working the jetting needles as he struggled to bring his motor back to life. With a split-second, last minute braking maneuver, JP kept a slim lead through turn 17, and down to the checkered flag for a win.”

The Pearlman family uses K&N Engineering products. “We had a great deal of work to do to set up JP’s Rotax kart to run in the HPV-4 Junior Class,” said Richard Pearlman. “The K&N Airbox and Filter are easy to service and helped make swapping the motors much easier.”

“It feels great to finally get that Tri-C win at Moran,” said Jacob Pearlman. “This place is awesome and one of my favorite places to race.” JP’s next race will be on Saturday, May 19th. He will compete in Round 6 of the Gatorz Karting Cup Rotax Max Challenge Series at the Willow Springs raceway Kart Track.

Swanson had a great start and by the end of the first lap he was in the 22nd spot. At the half way point he was 13th. There were several cautions and Swanson continued to climb the ranks. Coming to the white flag, he went into 9th position on the last lap between turns one and two.

Swanson was awarded the IMPACT Racing Hard Charger Award because he qualified 26th and finished 9th. “The No.90 Legend car is equipped with K&N Engineering Oil and Air Filters,” said Cody’s father Kirk Swanson. “We don’t have to worry about anything with K&N Products.”

Cody Swanson, 16, rode his first dirt bike at 3-years-old. At 7, he was in his first go kart and began racing in competitions at 10. He is highly motivated and races at some of the most challenging tracks in the southwestern United States.

“This is my 2nd year with K&N Engineering as a sponsor,” said Cody. “K&N was an integral part of all my success in 2006. We won the California State Championship in the Yamaha F200 class in karting. We also finished 5th at the IKF Grand Nationals in the HPV4 and HPV3 class. All of that success was with K&N’s Kart Air Box and or Air Filter.”

“After a good start to the season at Croft last month, I was hoping for a good start,” said Harrison. “Race one was a hard fought battle and I ended up in 7th place. The good news was that I beat my previous best from last year with a one minute forty-three second lap.”

By race four wet weather soaked the track. “This was going to be my first wet race since I crashed in 2005,” said Harrison. “I was not as aggressive and lost a number of places on the first lap and finished in 11th place. I was not pleased, but we are staying up there in points and overall it was a good end to my first full season back.”

Harrison is in 4th place in the championship chase. “My brother Jonathan is running a 2006 Yamaha R1 in the Metzeler Racetec National Superstock Cup,” he said. “I’m running a 2000 Yamaha R6. Both bikes have K&N Engineering Air Filters and both are running very well. K&N makes a superior product.”

Richie Harrison’s next race will be at Mallory Park on May 27th.

K&N Cold Air Intakes add heat shields and use a tube that extends beyond the engine bay away from the heat of the engine to maximize cool air. This is a key ingredient for horsepower.

Included in this Typhoon Air Intake System, like all other K&N Air Intake Systems is a high-flow air filter (RU-4990) designed to provide increased surface area. The heat shield isolates the K&N Air Filter from the engine compartment and allows the K&N Air Filter to receive a consistent flow of fresh cool air.

It takes less than 90 minutes to install this air intake with simple hand tools. K&N Typhoon Air Intake Systems are designed to improve engine performance along with under the hood visual appeal.
