K&N Engineering released a new Air Intake (69-8608TFK) in flat black for the 2005 and 2006 Scion tC 2.4 liter engine. K&N selected a few vehicles from Toyota that had hydrocarbon trap filters in the airboxes and worked with CARB's criteria to design emissions friendly air intakes. "This Typhoon Air Intake System is equipped with a hydrocarbon filter in the air box," said K&N Project Technician Nestor Cabrera. "Our Typhoon Air Intake System uses the factory upper air box with the mass air flow sensor. This allows the consumer to retain the CARB mandated emission device. Other additions include a special high flow K&N Air Filter (E-3038) and heat shield."

The high flow K&N Air Filter is mated to the factory upper air box by an exclusive K&N designed cage. The air intake heat shield isolates the air filter from the engine compartment and helps to funnel cooler outside air into the air filter. The CARB mandated hydrocarbon filter isolates evaporative emissions within the intake track. The E-3038 air filter is one of the first of its kind from K&N. It has a unique trapezoidal shape that was made specifically for this application.

K&N previously released air intakes for the 2005 & 2006 models with the traditional cold-air design. Performance of the 69-8608TFK is improved slightly over the K&N original air intake systems, 69-8607TB and 69-8607TS."

K&N dynamometer test show a 7.58 horsepower gain @ 5022 RPM for this intake system (69-8608TFK). "The horsepower and torque gains are exceptional for an engine of this size," said Cabrera. "The vehicle design played a major roll in the development of this Typhoon Air Intake. We took special care to ensure that the K&N Intake System followed the vehicle lines and did not obstruct or rub against other parts in the engine compartment."

There is a thorough development procedure which requires the use of multiple vehicles at K&N. "This helps give us confidence in our horsepower numbers," said Cabrera. "Our Typhoon Air Intake Systems go through a lot testing before being finalized for production."

It takes less than 90 minutes to install most K&N Air Intakes with common tools. K&N Typhoon Air Intake Systems are designed to improve engine performance along with under the hood visual appeal.

In the A final, Crump was unable to take a podium spot and finished in a disappointing fourth place. “I won my first heat and from there it all went downhill,” said Crump. “I spoke too soon last week thinking that my technical issues from round one had been fixed, but they are still there. We have a lot of work ahead of us to get the problems fixed in time for the next Grand Prix race. I don’t like losing.

Crump is in third place in the World Championship chase. “I have to win races and right now I’m not doing that,” said Crump. “But don’t write me off just yet, there are nine more GP’s to go. People know me as a fighter and not a quitter so I’ll be back.”

Crump uses K&N Engineering products. “The K&N Filters keep the dirt out of the engine,” he said.  "With all the other technical problems we’re having, the one thing we never have to worry about is K&N.”

Round 3 of the 2007 Speedway Grand Prix World Championship takes place in Eskilstuna, Sweden on Saturday May 20th. Eskilstuna is 75 miles west of Stockholm on the Eskilstunaån River.

Our experts are available Monday through Thursday from 6 am until 5 pm and on Friday from 6 am until 4:30 pm PST. Be prepared to provide a description of your application needs along with the desired quantity and filter dimensions.  If we make a filter that is close to what you need, provide us with the part number and how we could change it to meet your needs.  For example if you need an air filter just like our RU-2820 except you need it to be 6" tall instead of 6.5", this will give us the information we need to build your custom air filter.

When you call, our customer service representatives will search to see if another air filter satisfies your needs. For example, “I need a round air filter with a 12 inch diameter base, 10 inches in length with a 5 inch chrome top; or I need a custom air filter with an E-1500 air filter base and a six inch rubber top at 8 inches high.”  You may be asked to submit a sketch which should include base/top diameter, length and shape.

Our Custom Air Filter Manager looks at every request that enters our system. If we have any questions on our end you’ll be contacted. Personal attention is important to us at K&N.

Once we have reviewed your specifications our customer service department will contact you and provide a quote.  Our usual turn around time is two to four weeks.  Volume discounts are available depending on the number of units ordered.

Silver Dollar Speedway and Ocean Speedway are Good Venues for Jonathan Allard

Sprint car racer Jonathan Allard won his fourth feature of the season at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California. Qualifying was the fastest it had been all season at Allard’s home track.

Six drivers, including Allard were able to make the record breaking times during the Feather Falls Casino Point Race. In the 25 lap feature Allard took over the lead on lap three in the K&N Filters No.6 car and took the win.

Allard and Williams Motorsports scored another top-five win a few days later at the Golden State Challenge Series in Watsonville, California. In the 30-lap feature the track was very dry with a tough surface. It had turned into a one lane expressway on the bottom.

On lap four, Allard lost a spot to Brett Miller to fall back to sixth, but by lap nine he made it to fifth place. On lap 17, Allard was able to get Jim Skinner and move into fourth place where he finished the competition.

We use K&N Engineering Oil and Air Filters along with K&N’s Carbon Fiber Air Box,” said Allard. “K&N makes the best products, the oil and air filters are easy to use and maintain. We just wash, assemble and race and we never have to worry about performance.”

The Defending Golden State Champion is now third in GSC Series points. His next race will be the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial at Silver Dollar Speedway. He has a very good chance of becoming the first ever four-time winner of the Dave Bradway Jr. race.
