Tony Bell was dominant in round one with a maximum of 24 points. Racer Derek
Jobb was Bell’s main challenge throughout the day. Jobb, the winner of the
opening round of the Irish Rallycross Championship, suffered a setback in the
first round of heats when he tore off the front right corner of his Ford Escort
RS2000. Jobb made it back to the action for the second round of heats.
At the start of the A final, Tony Bell shot off into the lead from pole position
ahead of Jobb, Chris Langley and Mad Mark. Bell was able to build a lead that he
would maintain to the finish to win the opening round of the championship and
the English Rallycross Masters Title.
Steve Heppenstall won in the New Silverstone Stock Hatch category, beating out
19 other cars in his Peugeot 205GTi. In the MDA Minicross Championship, Danny
Budd was victorious narrowly edging out Shelley Wakeling.
Also included within the 2007 structure is the new Revivals category for both
two and four wheel drive cars. Dean Jones beat Lance Foster in his Ford Escort.
Round two of the 40th Anniversary of Rallycross will take place on April 22nd in
Lincolnshire.

The World of Outlaws 2006 season will go down in the record books for Donny
Schatz as a career best. He claimed his first World of Outlaws title, 17 WoO
A-Feature wins, 42 top five finishes, 49 top ten finishes, nine fast time awards
and led 441 laps last year.
Donny Schatz 2006 WoO Champion
The Fargo, North Dakota racer also was named the 2006 Lucas Oil/Dirt
Nation sprint car driver of the year and National Sprint Car Poll Driver of the
Year. He also experienced his first Knoxville Nationals victory.
Donny Schatz and the ParkerStore Team
Consistency was something that we worked towards for a long time,” said
Schatz. “Last year was my tenth year on the road and we used a lot of that
experience to help us reach the championship. Now that we’ve earned our first
championship, we’re not going to be satisfied. I feel like we’ve still got a lot
of accomplish. Nothing would make me happier than winning another Outlaws title
and repeating at Knoxville.”
Schatz also had a great record in the off season that included five consecutive
wins in Australia, his sixth $50,000 Sprintcar International and third
consecutive Outlaws Down Under Victory.
Schatz and the ParkerStore Team will continue to use a lot of the equipment that
has proven to be successful during last year’s championship season. Schatz uses
K&N Engineering products. “The K&N Airbox works flawlessly,” he said. “K&N
builds a superior product and we are able to attain maximum horsepower.”
Schatz will try and stay on top of the sprint car world as the season kicks off
at the 36th Annual DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in Florida. Schatz
and the ParkerStore Team have had good and not so good results at the half-mile
dirt oval over the past two years.
In 2005, Schatz had mechanical problems and in 2006 it was a tire. “We’re pumped
to get there,” he said. “I’m excited to return to a high speed race track. I’ve
spent most of the winter racing in Australia on mid-range tracks. I like the
higher speed tracks. Florida is one of those places where the tracks are unique
because of the sand and dirt. Anything can happen. We’re going to give it our
best and see what happens.”

Jeff Arend took his first test lap in the Checker, Schuck’s, Kragen blue car in
January. He is scheduled to make his official debut as a member of Worsham
Racing this Thursday, at the Carquest Winternationals in Pomona, California.

Funny Car Racer Jeff Arend
rend is focused and eager to prove himself to both the public and his
peers. With one career victory on his record, he will get his chance in 2007.
“Jeff is a future star looking for a place to go super nova,” said Team Manager
Bob Wilber of Worsham Racing. “He’s a great driver who needed a fast car to make
his mark.”
He’ll get his chance during qualifying session number one.
Jeff Arend's CSK Crew
“I’m ready to make that first real lap, with real points and real results
on the line,” said Arend. “It’s getting tough to sleep. I’ve been on a whirlwind
since the announcement was made in December. We’ve been testing the car and
learning to work together.”
This is Arend’s 12th year as a professional Funny Car driver. He will enter this
weekend’s race having competed in exactly 65 rounds of competition since 1995,
posting a 15-50 won/lost record. During that same time period, Arend’s teammate
Del Worsham has competed in 474 rounds, winning 248 of them.
“Del’s numbers speak for themselves, and they’re all you need to know to figure
out what a great driver he is,” said Arend. “I’ve always been impressed with how
he handles the car and reacts to it, so there’s a lot I can learn there. I
couldn’t be in a better place and I just can’t wait to get going.”
“Everyone at Worsham Racing is thrilled to maintain our relationship with K&N
Filters in 2007,” said Wilber. “We had K&N Oil Filters on both of our Checker,
Schuck’s, Kragen Monte Carlo Funny Cars throughout the entire 2006 season and we
never missed a minute of racing due to any filter failure. You need that kind of
confidence to continually send your divers out on the track in 330 mph race
cars. That’s why we continue to spin those K&N Filters into place before every
run. K&N Oil Filters are one part of the equation we never have to worry about.”

Connecticut.
Darcy Lange Team Babbitt
abbitt’s Monster Energy Kawasaki Race Team have a plan in place before
the final. Racer Darcy Lange and team manager Denny Bartz hope to wrap up the
championship before the final round.
Team Babbitt gets more horsepower with K&N
“We want to wrap up the series championship this weekend at the Target
Center in Minneapolis,” said Bartz. “With the title won, Darcy can concentrate
on riding to win at the U.S. Open of Arenacross and not have to worry about
protecting a point lead.”
The U.S.Open carries a $100,000 purse with $50,000 going to the winner. Last
weekend Lange increased his monumental points lead to 111 with 3 wins and one
second place at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
Team Babbitt uses K&N Engineering products. “We get a one horsepower gain with
our K&N Air Filters,” said Bartz. “That is a huge amount when it comes to
arenacross racing.”
Just after mid-season Lange was so dominant in points, not much could jeopardize
his lead. “It’s all about not making mistakes at this point,” said Lange.
“That’s what we have to do and go from there.”
